A little ShaKa Studios* history for our newer fans: We launched our internet-based custom furniture business in 1998 and by 2002 independent shop owners in 25 states were carrying ShaKa Studios* furniture in their stores.

When the economy tanked in 2008 we made the very hard choice to discontinue selling wholesale and shift our focus to made-to-order custom beds and custom TV cabinets.

Back in the day, so to speak, one of my favorite shop owners was Luanne at Classic Country Furniture in Uncasville, Connecticut.  Clyda worked for Luanne before moving to Utah a few years ago.

“The Bucket Cupboard (red over black) is the focal point of the living room; even people who don’t get my decor love it!  I mentioned that I purchased it just as I left Classic Country Furniture and we had just gotten it in so Luanne was none too happy.

In our previous home I used it in the dining room and filled it with all my salt glazed pottery (I was much more primitive in style back in Connecticut which suited my house but out here I have had to go with what they are now calling “transitional”) but now it is in my living room and filled with old family treasures. That is one of the things I love about it, that it is so versatile; I could happily use it in just about any room in the house! (The three round pitchers on the bottom shelf I collected during visits to Texas…)”

How do I commission my Bucket Cupboard?

Shane Rodarte Furniture Maker crafts each bed to order in Muskegon, Michigan during the months of May through September with deliveries scheduled between June and October. To inquire about ordering your custom furniture, use our contact page, or call Kandas at 281-826-2337.

*Shane Rodarte did business under the name ShaKa Studios for more than a decade. In 2018, we accidentally let the domain name expire, and when we tried to repurchase the new owner wanted $25,000 for it. Lesson: don’t let your domain names expire.
